Understanding the Impact of Injury, Violence and Trauma on Mental Health and Wellbeing Among Men and Boys of Color
On Tuesday, September 5, 2017, Community Intelligence and the Violence Prevention Coalition (VPC) will convene practitioners, policy-makers, funders, artists, community advocates, law enforcement/probation, health/mental health professionals, school personnel, a local elected official and youth to explore opportunities, actions and strategies that can be implemented to uplift men/boys and women/girls of color and accomplish My Brothers' Keeper objectives in California. We expect a group of up to 50 participants/organizations convening to to discuss the impact of violence and trauma on health, mental health and community well-being among men/boys of color.

Community Intelligence: Uplifting Men/Boys & Women/Girls of Color in California Conference with Indigenous Music Performance
On Monday, October 9, 2017 the, Alliance for Boys and Men of Color; Asian & Pacific Islander Caucus for Public Health; Black Women for Wellness; Californian’s for Safety and Justice [...] 59th California Assembly District Office; and, the 64th California Assembly District Office are partnering to convene a diverse set of professionals to explore opportunities, actions and strategies that can be utilized to Uplift Men/Boys and Women/Girls of Color (MBOC/WGOC) and accomplish My Brothers/My Sister's Keeper (MBK/MSK) objectives in California. Speakers include public health and mental health practitioners, non-profit organizations, health departments, policy-makers, funders, artists, community advocates, law enforcement and probation, researchers, school personnel, local elected officials and youth. We expect a crowd of up to 200+ participants representing dozens of organizations convening to learn more about tools and concepts that can be used to uplift men/boys and women/girls of color in California.

Understanding of the Impact of Injury, Violence and Trauma on Mental Health and Wellbeing Among Women and Girls of Color presented by Community Intelligence, the Making Connections Network and VPCGLA
Exposure to violence, particularly greater exposure to violence and trauma, complicate adolescent and adult development among young women and girls of color (YWGOC) aged 12-25. The goal of this workshop is to discuss the mental health impact of violence, trauma and unhealthy physical environments on YWGOC aged 12-25 in South Los Angeles and the surrounding south LA County communities of Hawthorne, Lawndale, Lennox, Inglewood, Gardena, Watts and Compton.

The Elevating Maternal, Paternal, Child & Adolescent Health in Communities of Color Conference will be held in Los Angeles, California on March 5th, 2018, when we will gather maternal, paternal, child and adolescent health professionals, public health professionals, mental health professionals, educators/school teachers, maternal and child health advocates, injury prevention professionals and organizations, law enforcement, students (undergraduate and graduate), park and recreation personnel and domestic/family/intimate partner violence professionals. Our presenters understand and can describe the challenges and impending opportunities to elevate maternal, paternal, child and adolescent health, public health, mental health, education, health, injury prevention, law enforcement, parks and recreation and domestic/family/intimate partner violence in communities of color.

Addressing Mental Health Impact of Injury, Violence and Trauma and ATOD Abuse on Men and Boys of Color
Join us for a workshop focused on deepening our understanding of the connections between ‘injury, violence and trauma’ and ‘alcohol, tobacco and/or other drugs’. Specifically, the ‘access to, sale of, manufacturing of, exploitation of, commercialization of, commoditization of, cultural appropriation of and the use/abuse of alcohol, tobacco and/or other drugs’ in communities of color.
